Sir Patrick has continued his long run as Captain Picard with his current show "Star Trek: Picard" and continues to play his beloved X-Men character Professor Charles Xavier, most recently in Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Assembly, a film written and directed by Hershey Felder and filmed in Poland, was inspired by the work of Holocaust survivor Eva Libitzky, who lost all of her family in the Holocaust during World War II. For the last 40 years of her life, Libitzky made it her mission to tell her harrowing life story at hundreds of school assemblies to ensure the young people of America never forget what happened in Europe 80 years ago.

Spanning more than 800 years, the works include 12th-century German abbess Hildegard von Bingen’s "O Virtus Sapientiae;" Benjamin Britten’s melodious Simple Symphony, with its sophisticated orchestrations of tunes he had written as a child; the compact but lively 10th String Symphony in B minor written by a teenaged Felix Mendelssohn; Paul Hindemith’s compelling Five Pieces for String Orchestra; and Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite, which sits at the intersection of Baroque-style dances and Nordic treatments and harmonies.

Pauline Viardot’s 1867 masterwork salon opera, Le Dernier Sorcier (The Last Sorcerer) was written on a libretto by her lover, the great Russian novelist Turgenev. The work is a feminist eco-fable in operatic form, 150 years ahead of its time. It was premiered to great acclaim at her villa in Baden Baden (by Pauline at the piano and her students in the roles). The original piano-voice manuscript was held in a private collection for over a century, and as such, it essentially vanished without a trace

The program also features Corelli’s rich and festive Concerto Grosso, Opus 6, No. 4; Geminiani’s charming Concerto Grosso in D Major; and Handel’s grand Concerto Grosso in A Major, Opus 6, No. 11, one of the most celebrated works for strings from the Baroque era.
